Single-segment speed run of Resident Evil 3 on hard mode done on November 15 2004, achieves A rank. Available in three versions: low quality, normal quality, and 60 fps high quality.
Author's comments: This run was a pain due to randomness. This was the first Resident Evil game to feature this. Some items have more than one spawn location, mostly gun powder, but also the Magnum / Grenade Launcher. I had to restart this run more times due to the Magnum being in the Precinct than any other reason.
Also, unlike Resident Evil 2, using First Aid Sprays doesn't affect your rank...it's the total amount of healing items you use that affects it.
I primarily use the shotgun for the first half of the game, since the Handgun is too weak. I don't actually need that many shells either. 3 full loads worth is plenty. However, there's only 1 conveniently placed box of shells. The other I had to make on the fly with a Gunpowder B.
The latter half of the game uses the Grenade Launcher almost exclusively, with the exception of the Nemesis fight in the Trash room. The Handgun works well for hitting the switches that release the chemicals. You'll notice I had been gathering a lot of Gunpowder in the city. That was all for extra Freeze Rounds, which are the strongest available in most cases. Acid Rounds work best on the Gravedigger however, so I had to collect some extra Gunpowder B just for that. Fortunately, all the Gunpowder I needed was directly in my path, in one spawn location or the other.
I also didn't bother using Herbs for healing unless I just needed a quick restore and they happened to be right there.
I'll admit the time could've been better...I could have dodged a lot more and shot less. Also, you'll notice a couple times where I'll enter a door, and it'll get stuck on the loading screen...blame my PS2. For some reason it doesn't like loading this game (and only this one...haven't had any problems with any other RE titles), and the clock doesn't stop on those loading screens. Nothing I can do about it either short of buying a new PS2 - and I'm broke, so that ain't gonna happen any time soon. ;)
